Evaluate · Chapter 3 of 3

The honest comparison

If you will not compare yourself to your alternatives, the reader will — usually with worse information than you have.

Name your two most obvious alternatives. For each, write one honest sentence about what they are better at, and one about what you are better at. No sneering, no straw men.

This does two things. It signals maturity, which is rare online. And it saves the reader an hour of research — which is a gift they remember.

Apply this week

  • Draft a small comparison block: "How this compares to X and Y."
  • Show it to someone who has bought from both alternatives. Ask if it is fair.
