Discover · Chapter 2 of 3
Diagnose your first impression
Before you rewrite anything, audit what you already have through the Matrix lens.
Open the three places a stranger is most likely to meet you: your homepage, your top social profile, and your most recent post or ad. For each, write down what a first-time visitor would probably Think, Feel, Fear and Need in the first five seconds.
You are not looking for design flaws. You are looking for emotional mismatches. A calm reader arriving to a shouty page. A skeptical reader arriving to a hype-filled promise. A tired reader arriving to a wall of text.
The five-second test, done properly
Ask a friend outside your industry to look at each page for five seconds and then tell you, in their own words, three things: who it is for, what it does, and how it made them feel.
Their answer to the third question is the one that matters most. If they cannot name a feeling, your Discover stage has no signal.
Apply this week
- Screenshot your homepage, top social profile, and most recent post.
- For each, fill in a mini-matrix: Think, Feel, Fear, Need.
- Circle the row where reality is furthest from what you want the reader to experience. That is your first fix.
